Privacy Statement

1. Our approach to privacy

You do not need to provide your name, email address, phone number, home address or other identifying information to use CanuckNet Search or CanuckNet Maps.

CanuckNet currently does not require a user account to use its general search, mapping or routing services.

2. Location information

CanuckNet Maps and certain CanuckNet Search features may request access to your device's location.

Location is used only when necessary to provide features such as:

• finding search results near you;
• ranking map results based on proximity;
• determining your starting position for directions;
• calculating routes and navigation; and
• providing other location-dependent mapping features.

Your browser or device controls whether CanuckNet is permitted to access your location.

You may deny or revoke location permission through your browser or device settings. Features that do not require your current location will continue to work.

3. Search queries

CanuckNet processes the search terms you enter in order to provide search results.

CanuckNet does not require an account to perform searches and does not intentionally associate search queries with an identified user or maintain individual search histories for profiling or advertising purposes.

4. Accounts and personal information

CanuckNet currently does not require user accounts and does not ask users to provide personal information as a condition of using CanuckNet Search or CanuckNet Maps.

If optional accounts or other features that collect personal information are introduced in the future, this Privacy Statement will be updated accordingly.

5. Cookies and local preferences

CanuckNet may use limited browser storage or cookies to remember preferences necessary for the user experience, such as your selected Light or Dark theme.

These preferences are not intended to identify or track you across unrelated websites.

CanuckNet does not use advertising cookies or create advertising profiles based on your use of the service.

6. Technical information and server logs

Like most internet services, CanuckNet's web servers, reverse proxies, hosting infrastructure or security systems may temporarily process technical information necessary to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the service.

This may include an IP address, browser information, requested URL, date and time of a request, and technical error or security information.

CanuckNet does not use this technical information to build profiles of individual users or for behavioural advertising.

Where technical logs are retained for operational or security purposes, CanuckNet intends to limit their collection and retention to what is reasonably necessary.

7. Third-party and open-data services

CanuckNet uses open-source software and open data to provide portions of its services.

Mapping, location and routing information may include data derived from OpenStreetMap contributors.

Some search or mapping requests may require communication with external data or search providers necessary to return the requested information. Those services may process technical information according to their own privacy practices.

CanuckNet aims to minimize information transmitted to external services wherever reasonably possible.

8. Advertising and tracking

CanuckNet does not currently use personal location information or search histories for targeted advertising.

CanuckNet does not sell users' personal information.

If CanuckNet's advertising or business practices change in a way that affects privacy, this Privacy Statement will be updated accordingly.

9. Children

CanuckNet does not require users to provide personal information and does not knowingly create personal profiles of children.

10. Security

CanuckNet uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect its systems and the information necessary to operate them.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Minimizing the personal information collected by CanuckNet also reduces the amount of personal information potentially at risk.

11. Changes to this Privacy Statement

CanuckNet may update this Privacy Statement as the service evolves.

Material changes affecting how personal information is collected, used or disclosed will be reflected in an updated Privacy Statement and effective date.
