Terms and Conditions of Use
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By accessing or using CanuckNet, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use the service.
2. The CanuckNet service
CanuckNet provides services that may include:
- web search;
- Canadian-focused search results;
- place and business information;
- maps;
- location search;
- directions;
- route calculations;
- navigation-related information; and
- other search and mapping features.
Features may be added, changed or removed as CanuckNet develops.
3. No account required
CanuckNet currently does not require an account to use its general Search or Maps services.
Your use of location-enabled features is optional and subject to the permissions you grant through your browser or device.
4. Search results
CanuckNet search results may originate from or be influenced by third-party search engines, websites, open datasets and other external sources.
CanuckNet does not control the content of third-party websites appearing in search results.
The appearance of a website, business, organization or other resource in CanuckNet results does not constitute an endorsement by CanuckNet.
Search results may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, unavailable or inappropriate for a particular purpose.
5. Maps and Places information
CanuckNet Maps and CanuckNet Places may contain information obtained from CanuckNet's own reviewed database, OpenStreetMap and other open or third-party data sources.
Although we work to improve accuracy, information about businesses, addresses, roads, operating status, locations and other places may be incomplete or outdated.
Users should independently verify important information when necessary.
6. Directions and navigation
Routes, directions, travel times, distances and navigation information provided by CanuckNet are estimates.
Do not follow a CanuckNet route when doing so would be unsafe, unlawful or impossible.
Roads, trails, ferries, bridges and other transportation infrastructure can change faster than mapping data.
CanuckNet should not be relied upon as the sole source of information in an emergency or other safety-critical situation.
7. Safe use while driving
Do not interact with CanuckNet in a manner that distracts you while operating a vehicle.
Set your destination before driving whenever possible and use hands-free or vehicle-integrated features where permitted.
You are responsible for operating your vehicle safely and complying with applicable laws.
8. Permitted use
You may use CanuckNet for lawful personal and commercial searches and navigation.
You may not:
- attempt to disrupt, overload or damage CanuckNet systems;
- circumvent security or access controls;
- use automated systems to place unreasonable loads on the service;
- attempt unauthorized access to CanuckNet infrastructure;
- use CanuckNet to facilitate unlawful activity; or
- misrepresent yourself as CanuckNet or falsely imply CanuckNet endorsement.
9. Intellectual property
The CanuckNet name, branding, logos, interface design and original CanuckNet software or content are owned by CanuckNet or its applicable rights holders unless otherwise stated.
Third-party content, open-source software and open data remain subject to their respective licences and terms.
OpenStreetMap data is provided under its applicable open-data licence and is attributed to OpenStreetMap contributors.
10. Availability
CanuckNet is provided on an "as available" basis.
We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or free from technical problems.
CanuckNet may temporarily restrict or suspend services for maintenance, security, upgrades or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
11. No warranty of accuracy
CanuckNet works to provide useful and relevant information but does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, timeliness or suitability of search results, map information, Places data, directions or other content.
You remain responsible for decisions made based on information obtained through CanuckNet.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, CanuckNet and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special or similar damages resulting from the use of, inability to use, or reliance upon CanuckNet.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be prohibited by applicable law.
13. Third-party services
CanuckNet may provide links to or incorporate information from third-party websites, services and datasets.
Those third parties operate independently from CanuckNet and may have their own terms, privacy practices and policies.
CanuckNet is not responsible for the content or operation of third-party services.
14. Privacy
Your use of CanuckNet is also subject to the CanuckNet Privacy Statement .
Location access is optional and, when permitted, is used for location-dependent features such as nearby search results, mapping, directions and navigation.
CanuckNet does not maintain a stored history of your device location on its servers.
15. Changes to CanuckNet or these Terms
CanuckNet may modify the service or these Terms as the platform develops.
The current version of these Terms will be published on CanuckNet with its effective date.
Continued use of CanuckNet following an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the applicable laws of Nova Scotia and Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Any rights you have under applicable consumer protection, privacy or other laws are not waived by these Terms.
